CW Blocks 28 & 29....quilt top

CW blocks #28 . Next Door Neighbour & #29. Railroad Crossing..
Well these are the last two CW blocks that I'm doing...

I've decided to stop at these two blocks, with the alternate Alabama blocks I have a lovely lap size quilt...I feel it's time to move onto other stuff that I want to do, so I'll add a border and call this a top...this measures a lovely 64" x 48". Sorry about the angle of this photo, I had trouble fitting it all in ....♥

These bow ties were inspired by Bonnie's leaders and enders project...

..Very tiny at 3"... I'm not sure if I could do a whole big quilt in Cheddar....too bright, just not me!

I'm thinking I'll do a few more in cheddar and these can be a lovely little doll quilt to add to my collection of doll quilts. Still very tempted to do a bow tie quilt though, just with bigger blocks..

We've had a lovely sunny two days...hope your having a lovely weekend! ....♥

  2. I love the look of your civil war quilt.
The bowtie blocks would be cute at 3" but I'm guessing fiddly?

  3. Your Civil War layout looks great Julia. I counted 24 CW blocks. That I could achieve and hope to follow your lead if that's ok.
I missed the successful shopping of your last post.

  5. Your CW quilt looks fabulous and the Alabama block really sets it off. I fell a little behind with my CW blocks but am starting to catch up again now. Take care.

Bow ties are just sooo versatile aren't they. I love them used in a baby quilt in pastels. :)

  7. You CW block layout is very striking. I don't blame you for wanting to move on and focus on something else. I've caught up a bit with my CW blocks but am thinking about ending it. So many others I'd like to start--Farmer's Wife, or Sylvia's Bridal Sampler, or maybe I could even finish my Dear Jane. And that doesn't touch my bucket list.
It's such a good thing we can multi-task with our stitching.
Your 3" bowties would make an adorable little doll quilt.

  8. They are both so lovely! It's good to stop before something becomes a drag and is no longer fun. But it'll be a beautiful lap quilt.

  9. Julia your CW quilt is magnificent. Love the little bow ties blocks. You are such a work horse and before we know it they will be finished items. I can only dream....

  10. Right now I'm also finishing my CW quilt, but I like the alternate Alabama blocks in between. And the way you make the bow tie block is a lot simpler than the way where you have to make the middle in one piece, I like this way. Great idea to make a doll quilt.

  11. I really do love your civil war quilt Julia ... and your little bow ties are cute too. I think you're right with the cheddar ... it'd be a bit bright for a big quilt for me too - but it looks fabulous in a miniature :o).
    Hugs,
    Joy :o)

  12. I think your CW lap size quilt looks wonderful Julia!! I also love the Bow Tie blocks, they seem to have popped up quite frequently lately!!! I love the cheddar, but probably not in a whole quilt, like you I love the colour but it can be a bit overpowering! A doll quilt though will be charming!!!

  13. Just as you said, "Lovely." I simply must read-up on how to go about "leaders and enders" sewing. Seems one can actually get something made that way!

  14. I just love your Civil War Quilt. I am still in the cutting stage trying to catch up and then I will start to sew. Not sure I will do them all after seeing your beautiful quilt.

  18. I love your Civil War quilt, the setting is great! I am still catching up with my blocks, and I am also doing the Farmers Wife Sampler blocks. I know what you mean about moving on to other projects...that is why I get behind on projects I have going.

  21. The Civil War quilt is great. A nice balance of colours, and a great setting. How wise of you to stop when you know you've reached your limit. I was so nearly tempted with the 3" bow ties, but I have to agree, too small. It would end up a UFO at my place, even as a leader and ender!
