Cross- Stitch Blog Along...

Firstly a big thank you to Chooky Blue for organizing this cross-stitch blog along... be sure to visit all the girls taking part and enjoy some beautiful amazing work...

I thought I would start with my Dear Jane cross stitch...this was something I just had to do after finishing my DJ quilt...

Only just finished...this really was a lot of work...almost as much work as making the DJ quilt... all those thread colour changes, but it was well worth it... I love it, I'm so happy!
I just need to have it framed now and find a special spot for it to hang and enjoy...
The above cross-stitch sampler I made when our first grand child Glenn was born...that was 29 years ago.. he loved it, as did the other grand kids after him....they had so much fun learning the alphabet with it.....I've been saving the sampler to give to the first great grand child that is born...♥ This pretty "Welcome " greets visitors as they come in the front door, I love the saying.."Where there is love in the heart, there is room in the home " ...

I worked this petti point tapestry about 35 years ago....it was a gift given to me by a friend who brought it back from Germany...♥

This sampler above and the friendship one below I made up myself...inspired by old samplers I had seen in old craft books........
.... it was a bit hard to get a good photo with the reflective glass....♥
Not sure if these would be called Swans, Geese or what....
I cross-stitched these a while back when I was really into ducks, geese, swans, I had ornamental ducks everywhere...funny how ones taste changes over time.... I had them on a pair of decorative hoops and displayed together, I do still love them, but they have been put away in the cupboard as they just don't seem to fit in anymore ..
Thank you for taking time to visit...♥

  2. Julia, I know how much work cross stitch takes and I am amazed at these works of art. They are wonderful! That DJ is just exquisite. The first home I had was filled with geese/ducks etc. back in the 80/90's. I wonder if you could re-use these as a pocket on an apron etc.?? Thank you for sharing pictures of each of these pieces. Hope you have a good weekend.

  9. Hi Julia

Thanks for visiting my site for the CS blog-along.

I love your Dear Jane cross stitch. So much work involved! I know a lady blogger in Adelaide who is in the process of doing a blue and white Dear Jane quilt so I gave her your blog site. Her name is Pip from www.restisnotidleness.blogspot.com

I'll be putting up some more cross stitches next Saturday. I pulled out my Christmas ones and found a few others too!

    Cheers - Joolz

  10. Very lovely, as always. I haven't crossstiched in years, but you make me want to. I especially love your tapestry. I started something similar, with every square crossstiched and it is still sitting waiting hopefully.

  19. Your Dj in cross stitch is beautiful and I can imagine al the work that went into it. I also love the samplers you made up yourself. I like it very much when it is all your idea. I read your tutorial about quilt as you go today. I once knew how to do it but wasn't quite sure. This was a very clear explanation. I will use it for my applique quilt. thank you.
    Have a good weekend

  22. I used to have the pattern for the Dear Jane cross stitch. I finally decided it was never going to get made up and gave it away. You did beautiful stitching on yours. And how nice to have both a quilt and a stitchery.

  25. I absolutely love your work! I recently just got into hand embroidery, and I don't think I'm very good. But I'm hoping that with practice and experience I'll be able to to needlepoint as well as these examples!

  33. Lovely to see the variety of work you have done over the years, Julia! There must have been a whole series of those geese/duck cross stitch pictures. I found four beautifully stitched pieces in opshops last year, and I plan to incorporate them into a patchwork wall hanging, along with other finished X/S pieces I've found in opshops.

  34. Lovely work. The cross stitch alphabet sampler that you did for your children I had started many many years ago from a pattern in Better Homes and Gardens. I am soon to have my first child and would like to finish it, however, I can't find the pattern. I would be so grateful if you could email me the pattern or remind me which issue of Better Homes it was in, I thought it was 1988 or 1989.

    Regards, Simone.

I had the pattern but have lost in when I moved house. I would like to see if it is for sale still but can't remember where I got it from.
