This and That ...update on plates

Good morning everyone...I hope you are all having a great weekend!

I have made good progress on the plates and appliqued some of the plates onto their background fabric...and I must say they are looking great!
Now I'm not sure whether to go with the light rose centres or the dark green centres...the light rose is basted onto cardboard, but the dark green centre is just sitting there on top of the plate. Looking at them here, the light rose centre looks a bit pale and washed out looking and I'm thinking the dark green may be a bit heavy...perhaps I should look for another rose fabric..

On to another project...I am knitting Dh a pair of socks....isn't this yarn a great colour for guys!
I have two pair of hand knitted socks and I love them...one pair was given to me by dear quilting friend Gwen, I'm sure you would have seen her photo many times on my blog, and the other pair I learnt to knit last year....would you believe it, but I have forgotten how to knit them now!
So it will be back to lessons from a couple of my quilting/sock knitting friends when we meet next week..
Must go and do some work..

Have a great day...♥

  3. Hi love your plates and I also think i like the light center and I like how you have "fussy" cut the center rose--I am big fan of pink roses!!!! As for the knitting--I also do it occasionally--then I wonder why as I have so many other projects going???? but it's fun to do something different now and then.

  8. I'm with you i think the green one is a bit heavy. The light is gorgeous ... but if you're not sure you could always try one just slightly darker than the one in the pic and see how that looks.
I'm really enjoying watching your progress on this quilt, I've got a Dresden plate one in my design book just waiting to be made up!!! Love them :o)!!

  9. Hi Julia, I prefer the light center too but I am curious now that you mention a deeper rose color. I love the socks you are knitting - wonderful color for your husband. Knitting is something I have never tried. I admire all your talents.

  10. Now Julia
I have to agree I like the light centres and think the way you have fussy cut your rose is perfect. The green is a bit heavy. Are you adding applique. Time to start mentally picturing the quilt as a whole and listen to that gut feeling :-)
    Cheers

  11. Definitely the light center is preferable to the darker one shown in this photo, in my opinion. Let us know what you decide.

  12. I like the darker center better than the light but I would like to see it with a medium shaded center.

  14. Hallo Julia,
I dont know yet.looked at them several times....blow them up to 400% .....the light rose center is great!!...but the darkgreenone isn,t bad either...i thought about a center the same as your background..just the little rosebundle...or a little lighter green rose...i am not much of a help i know...you.ll do the right thing...i just love your "plates"....they are next on my "to do"list too..
    greetings Francien.

  15. I love your plates, I too think the lighter one the best. But perhaps the center needs a little more color, like Francien says.
I am anxious to see how they'll becomeGreetings, Cisca

  16. Julia they are looking just lovely!
I really don't mind the light rose center though. If you decide on another fabric I may change my mind. I do agree that the green seemed a bit dark.
I hope you have a wonderful week ahead of you!

  19. Julia,

I love those Dresden Plates. They're perfect. I love the background you chose as well. I look forward to what you decide to use as the center. It's a nice place to make a personal choice and I know you'll find just what YOU'RE looking for.
