New Year's Quilt...progress

This gorgeous quilt that I started for the New Year is called "The Civil War Quilt" from Patchwork On Stoneleigh...specialists in antique reproduction quilts..sorry they do not have a website..

This is what I managed to get done yesterday on my new quilt.
I think you will be able to get a good idea now on how it's going to go together..

I've been making up some nine patches for the quilt, they are going to go in between the Underground Railroad blocks....
I love learning a bit about the history of the blocks in the quilt, it's great to read little bits of information like this... makes making the quilt more interesting.

According to the pattern, they are called Sanitary Commission Nine patches.
The pattern says, the U.S. Sanitary Commission commissioned nine patch quilts to raise funds for the "cause"...it goes on to say, thousands were made and auctioned off to raise funds....can you imagine thousands of nine patch quilts!

Off to do some more piecing..♥
